How we help

An outreach report

Our congregation's variety of outreach opportunities gives credit to who we are and what we do in Christ. This is to identify only some of them.

Matt Talbot Kitchen

St. Andrew's is teaming up with our sister church in Lincoln, St. David's, to serve an evening meal at Matt Talbot Kitchen in Lincoln once a month. Matt Talbot serves hot meals to people who don't always know where their next meal is coming from. They are often working people whose incomes don't stretch to cover basic needs. The third Monday of the month from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. is our time. Jerry Meyer is the St. A team leader who makes sure we have enough people for the job each month. Let Jerry know if you would like to be part of this ministry.

Blue Valley Community Action Food Pantry

Most visible each Sunday is the container for the Blue Valley Food Pantry in the vestibule. Some things that are the most useful to the food pantry are "non-perishable" foods such as pasta, boxed meals, gelatin, dried potatoes and cereal.

If you choose to give food from your own pantry, please check the expiration dates. The USDA forbids any expired food product to be given in the food boxes.

Personal hygiene products are also needed. The list includes: shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, toothbrushes, as well as cleaning products such as dish and laundry soaps.

Monetary donations are always welcome, since the pantry must supplement food donations with purchase of meat and other staples from the Lincoln Food Bank. The LFB prices are much cheaper than the local grocery store, so each donation will go a long way.

If you choose to give a monetary donation, please consider writing the check to St. Andrew's and put "BVCA Food Pantry" on the memo line.  Our treasurer will then write the check to BVCA.

Absent Guest Plate

The money placed on the Absent Guest Plate on the coffee serving table each Sunday is devoted not to buying coffee but to the Kiwanis "Backpack" program, which provides food to low-income school children and families.

Grief Support Group

St. Andrew's works with Tabitha to sponsor a monthly grief support group for anyone who has recently suffered the loss of a loved one. These drop-in meetings occur on the second Tuesday of the month in the parish hall.
